Cantor AppelbaumWelcome to the Cantor’s Corner. Please browse our 3 musical ensembles and consider sharing your musical ability and passion with the TBT community. In my years here at Temple Beth Torah, I have worked hard to impart my enthusiasm and commitment for Jewish music, prayer, and education to our adult and youth community. I am looking forward to being a part of your experience, whether it is at services, through the B’nei Mitzvah program, through our programming, or just a visit to my office. If you want to discuss getting involved or any issue, please call 631-643-1200 ext 319 or e-mail  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

CHOIR
You don’t have to read music, all you have to do is love singing. One rehearsal will convince you to join. Give it a try. We rehearse for 5 weeks, once a week, before a Shabbat service. Find time in your schedule to do what you love. You won’t regret it.

TEEN BAND
Do you play an instrument or sing? This is for you. Stayed involved with TBT playing modern Jewish rock at exciting services that blow off the roof with ruach. We rehearse for 5 weeks, once a week, before a Shabbat service.

ADULT BAND
If you play an instrument or sing, and enjoy learning the exciting Modern Jewish music that is enhancing and renewing prayer, and inspiring congregations around the world, then this is what you have been waiting for. We rehearse for 5 weeks, once a week, before a Shabbat service.

TORAH
If you are preparing for a Bar or Bar Mitzvah service at TBT, you will spend four months studying with me one-on-one to prepare your Torah portion. I love teaching cantillation to our students and having the privilege of watching them progress and take pride in what they accomplish. Students are actually exposed to the melodies of Torah Trope before they begin B’nei Mitzvah lessons. Our student’s first become acquainted with the melodies of Torah when they learn the V’ahavta in religious school. The way we chant the V’ahavta at services is not a song, it is Torah cantillation, because the V’ahavta, as we chant it in the Reform Jewish tradition is a combination of verses of Torah from Deuteronomy and Numbers.

Click V’ahavta text to read the text from our prayerbook Mishkan T’filah.
Click V’ahavta chanting to hear me chanting the verses.
If you never learned the V’ahavta, perhaps now is your opportunity. If you have a student in the religious school, learn it along with them. Happy chanting!
